Frequently asked questions
Is the sheet music editor free?
Yes. You can write, play back, transpose and export sheet music without paying and without an account.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. The first visit downloads the music fonts and the sound bank; after that it opens faster.
Where are my scores saved?
In your browser’s storage, on your device: they are not uploaded to our server. Clearing the browser data deletes them, so export a .mscz or MusicXML copy of the ones that matter.
Can I open MuseScore, MusicXML or MIDI files?
Yes: MuseScore 2, 3 and 4 (.mscz and .mscx), MusicXML, MIDI, Guitar Pro, Power Tab and Capella. Older MuseScore scores are converted when opened, like in the desktop app.
How do I transpose sheet music online?
Open the score, select all or part of it and use Tools › Transpose. Pick the target key or an interval, then export the result as PDF, MIDI or MusicXML.
Does it work on a phone?
It opens on phones and tablets, but writing music is much easier on a computer with a keyboard and mouse. To read and listen to a score on your phone, use the viewer.
Is this MuseScore?
No. It is based on MuseEncore, an independent open-source project that brings MuseScore Studio’s engraving engine to the browser. It is not an official MuseScore product and is not endorsed by MuseScore Limited.
